«Tzolk'in» wins board game prize «Mensa Preference»

For the second time, Mensa Switzerland awarded the game prize «Mensa Preference» for the best board game released in the last year.

In September the passionate game players in our High IQ Society started to test the games they liked best and which they deemed to deserve recognition for their complexity and the fun they provide. On January 1st a primary selection was presented, consisting of 15 games from all sorts of genres. In the middle of March, they decided on the five finalists.

During the Fête du Jeu, which took place from May 3rd to 5th in Saxon, the members met on Sunday, to elect the winner of the second edition of «Mensa Preference». The choice fell on «Tzolk'in» by Daniel Tascini und Simone Luciani. The game combines an innovative mechanism consisting of a wheel of time that symbolizes the Mayan Calendar with well-balanced tactical possibilities. Moreover, the variety of options guarantees that each game provides a different dynamic. «Tzolk'in» contains all elements to make it a crowd favorite.

Special Prize of the Jury

Since the decision between the finalists was extremely close, the jury decided for the first time to award a special price as a recommendation for «Keyflower» by Sebastian Bleasdale and Richard Breese.

On account of the success of the second edition of «Mensa Preference», the third edition begins in June of 2013. The winner will again be determined at the Fête du Jeu in Saxon, which takes place from May 2nd to 4th 2014. Prior to the finals at the Fête du Jeu, game events will also be held at other places in Switzerland, to offer the participants a chance to play the games and give their votes.
